HS codes on quotations and commercial invoices

HS codes classify goods for customs duty. Some buyers, destinations, or L/Cs require HS on commercial invoice; quoting with HS early avoids last-minute changes. TradeDocs product catalog stores HS codes and pulls them into deal lines.

Which documents may need HS

Quotation: optional — helps buyer estimate duty. CI: often required, especially US/EU/Brazil/India. PL: sometimes alongside CI. PI/SC: per buyer request.

Filling tips

Digit length varies by country (often 6–10); must match description and material. One code per product class — no “generic” codes. Re-verify when descriptions change. Maintaining HS in product catalog beats pasting from spreadsheets.

Using HS in TradeDocs

Set HS in product catalog → select products on deal → lines inherit HS → preview QT/CI with HS column → download PDF. Edits sync across documents on the same deal.
